Baptist History
Records show that the Baptist movement in the UK began in the early 17th century and that Newbury has had a Baptist presence since 1640, over 365 years of continuous worship and witness.
A summarised account of the Newbury Baptist history covering the period 1640 to 1940 is included here. This booklet was written by Mr W J Lewendon at the time of the opening of the present church building in 1940.
A revised account, including the years after 1940, was compiled by NBC member David Brazier with the help of others and published in 2003 as a book entitled "A History of The Newbury Baptists".
