The Girls' Brigade
What is The Girls' Brigade?
The Girls’ Brigade is an international, Christian organisation working alongside girls and young women of every background, ability and culture.
Founded in 1893, GB has become known worldwide as a fun, interesting, challenging and relevant provider of activities showing care and Christian
love for hundreds of thousands of young people.
The Girls’ Brigade was formed in July 1965 by the coming together of three organisations: The Girls’ Brigade (Ireland), The Girls’ Guildry (Scotland) and The Girls’
Life Brigade (England) and has the motto “Seek, Serve and Follow Christ”. Girls’ Brigade now operates in over 60 countries worldwide and seeks to enable
girls and young women to develop in confidence ability, friendship and citizenship and is committed to nurturing the unique value of every girl in its care.

The Girls' Brigade meet at NBC on Tuesday evenings (term time) from 6pm -
7.30pm.
We have an experienced, caring and enthusiastic team of Christian leaders. Many have served for many years in the Brigade and have children of their own, who are, or have been members.
Many care for children professionally as childminders or teachers. The Brigade has an extensive training scheme for Officers and all companies adhere to the Brigade “Safe from Harm” policies
and all leaders are CRB checked.

The girls undertake badgework through a programme which follows four themes, Spiritual, Physical, Educational and Service. The GB awards programme book is called the SPES files
(which is the Latin word for “hope”) and contains hundreds of syllabus from which we determine which activities to follow. This could be Bible drama, games, dancing, swimming, ten pin bowling, crafts,
cookery, first aid, safety in the home, fund raising, etc. However, we are able to adapt these or create our own if we so wish.
