What else do we do?

Newbury Baptist Church is an outward looking and proactive church, and is involved with a number of activities, charities and events within the Newbury area and the wider community.

A large number of organisations and supportive groups have been supported or set up by the church in order respond to a range of community needs, and there are now a variety of groups which help to sustain and facilitate a number of important causes.

Volunteers and assistance are always required to help run these initiatives, so do please have a look and see if there is somewhere you can apply your gifts to. If you feel you are in need of help from one of these groups, then please do contact the church office for more details or complete the 'get involved' form.

Alpha

Alpha is for everyone, especially those wanting to investigate Christianity, new Christians, those new to the church, and those who want to brush up on the basics. The Alpha Course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the big questions of life such as: Why are we here? What happens after we die? Why is our spirituality important? Exactly who was this man Jesus? Why is there so much suffering? It is relaxed, low-key, friendly and fun. There is no question too simple, too silly, too big or too hostile that you can't ask it. Anything goes! You can find out more here.

CTNA (Chuches Together in the Newbury Area)

He commenced his term of service in January 2012. His blog may be seen here .

Fundraising

There are many worthy causes and associations which have benefited from the participation and fundraising of church members. MacMillian Cancer Research, 24 Hour Famine, British Heart Foundation and Christian Aid are just some that Newbury Baptist Church have recently raised money for. These events include JOGLE, charity balls, auctions, cake sales, coffee mornings, an annual Skittles Tournament and the Race for Life. There are fundraising events happening right now, please have a look and see how you can get involved, initiate an event or nominate a cause. To find out more please contact the church office.

Giggles & Wiggles

Set up over ten years ago, this hugely popular toddlers group has grown from strength to strength. With accreditation from a wide range of sources including the NCT and West Berkshire Council the group continues to grow and support the local toddler community. Church members regularly visit Kolkata, India, to provide help as volunteer workers with street children. Newbury Baptist Church sponsors the work that helps with education, health and wellbeing of children and families that are underprivileged and in need. Further details of the team, activities and support happening in the area can be found here and the photo album here.

Listening Ear

Listening Ear is a free service which is open to the Newbury community for people to talk through their problems and issues with a trained listener using the reflective listening technique. This service is run by trained but ordinary people who have the time to listen, and if advice is needed then the listeners will organise this with you. For more information on the Listening Service please click here.

Loose Ends

"Loose Ends" is a regular activity hosted at NBC in the Morton Hall to meet the practical needs of the homeless currently in the Newbury area. Helpers from several Newbury Churches gather to provide hot meals, showers and advice in the Morton Hall, at Newbury Baptist Church.
