Operation £25K

WHAT?

We are raising £25,000 for the

Newbury Charles Clore Cancer Care Trust

Remembering Barry

Many of you will remember Barry Evans, Heather's husband, who lost his fight against bowel cancer last year. As you can imagine, the past 12 months have been a difficult year for many people across NBC and especially for Heather. During this time, Heather has been actively raising money to support the work of Cancer Research and many of her friends and family have taken part in events such as the race for life.
Barry's determination to remain focused on Jesus despite all he was going through has been an inspiration to many people and he constantly challenged those around him, asking open, honest, heartfelt questions and encouraging everyone to keep on searching for answers.
The memory of Barry will live on in the hearts of those people whose lives he touched.

As a group we have decided that we want to do something in honour of Barry that will have a lasting impact and continue to encourage other people in the way Barry encouraged us and raise funds to buy a minibus for the Charles Clore Trust, Barry was a patient there and he really appreciated the care he received.

He also encouraged his fellow patients to do as much as possible and was planning some daytrips for them, so buying a minibus would allow current and future patients to be able to benefit.

Three Peaks Challenge

Over the weekend of 21-22 July a team of 28 people will be aiming to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge in memory of Barry Evans who died last year. The team, including members of Newbury Baptist Church along with friends & family, plan to raise £25,000 for the Newbury & District Cancer Care Trust and Charles Clore Unit. The money will be used to buy new equipment that will have a lasting impact, benefiting current and future patients as well as raising awareness of the work carried out by the charities.
It involves scaling Ben Nevis, near Fort William in Scotland,
the highest mountain at 4,409 ft.
then at 3,208 ft, the challenge is Sca Fell in the Lake District and finally ...

the 3,560 ft summit of Snowdon in Snowdonia, North Wales.

The time limit is just 24 hours for all 3 climbs.

The reason why so many people have got involved with this project is due to the memory of Barry Evans, who lost his fight against bowel cancer last year at the age of 31.

Barry was an inspiration to many people, constantly challenging those around him, asking open, honest, heartfelt questions and encouraging everyone to keep on searching for answers.

The memory of Barry will live on in the hearts of those people whose lives he touched and this project is for him and the people suffering with cancer today in Newbury and the surrounding area.
